BUSY, BUSY,BUSY!!!

So it's starting to get crazy in the SD neighborhood.. We are constantly writing new material these days, and our schedule is beginning to get full and we have a whole new line of merchandise coming out.. This is all a very good thing! We have lots of plans for this new year such as recording a NEW FULL LENGTH ALBUM!! We hope to have it done this summer and the plan is to "out-do" ourselves on our last CD release party. If you were there, then you know this is going to be a hard thing to do.. We had our CD release party in a HUGE LODGE that slept 100 people, but we packed over 250 people in this cabin. The rest is kind of a blur!.. We wouldn't of had it any other way. BUT!...I think we're going to have to be more creative this time. We also want to get out of town a lot more this year. We are "California-bound" this March and we are very excited about that. It's been almost a year since we've been down there. We also will be getting into Colorado this year. And also this year we plan to shop around for management and a RECORD LABEL!!

You guys have no idea how grateful we are for your continued support. It feels so good to be able to connect with people on a musical level. We take music very seriously and we know you do to. We appreciate every CD purchase, comment, message, and email we get from every one of you. So thank you very much and lots of love from all of us.....

What we've been up to......

So this last week was a really fun one for us. We started out the week by performing on Park City Television. This was about our third time playing, but probably my favorite. We performed our newest song, "Push", which you can watch the performance of in our video section of our blog or on youtube. The friday after that we performed at The Bay in downtown. The Bay is an awesome venue. And we had a really good turn out too! Thank you, to all of you who came out and made it wonderful. Saturday, we spent at The Star Bar in Park City with our new friends, Wasnatch! They are an awesome reggae band for Salt Lake City. Check em out if you haven't yet.. We ended our Park City trip with a picture in front of the weather green screen. We will be back in Park City on February 9th to play with FishBone!! That should be an awesome show. See you next time!

Hello there everybody. We have a lot of awesome things coming up. On January 14th, we are playing at a venue in downtown SLC that we've never played before. "The Bay"!! And best of all, we will be performing with our friends from Las Vegas, NV, One Pin Short!! We will also be performing with them Saturday January 15th at The Star Bar in Park City, UT. Also, catch us earlier in the week on Wednesday January 13th on PCTV (park city television) for an interview and live set!!

doing it all is not easy...

So to start this off I am not talking about me doing it all personally but am referring to how difficult it is to manage everything as a band on our own... This is why bands get management. It would be so nice one day to not have to worry about where we were playing, if we need to bring equipment, if we have merchandise, if we can find someone to run the board, if we have a place to stay, if we have a ride, how much money is this going to cost us, etc. This is one of the main reasons bands fight. There's is a ton of stress involved when your coming up. You don't have the luxury of just playing there is sooooo much more involved behind the scenes and when you're not making the big bucks it's all up to you to get it done. Without guidance from someone with industry experience you take your best guess, self promote, try and be creative and see what happens . As an artist it is completly draining to deal with all the business side of the operation because it leaves you no time to focus on what really matters...the music and the creative process. You get so involved in the business side of things that making music loses it's romance; it just seems like another task. Just yesterday I spent at least 4 hours trying to come up with designs for t-shirts. I'm not a graphic designer and art is not my forte. But as an upcoming band you make it work, you figure it out. I just wish I could afford someone who knew what they were doing in designing and in other aspects so I could work on what I know how to do; which is to write music. Maybe one day huh? It's nice to dream... :)

What an interesting couple of months....

Well, I don't think there is any way that I would have been able to forecast all the dynamic changes Sober Down has felt as a band over the last little while. It has been such a crazy time for us. First we lost Darvell, our beloved sax player, in late March from some inter-band conflict, but we picked up Nate immediately there after and Nate has really owned that role for 8 soulful months. Then were wrapping up the end of a very busy summer and BOOM we loose our drummer then BOOM I'm hospitalized for a month with a shattered leg. Then come out of the hospital unable to walk and am only able to get around on a wheelchair. We were unsure of when we would be able to play as a band again. The Dr.'s told me I was looking at about 6 months of recovery time which basically solidified Joe's (our bassist) decision to move to California where his family had been living for several months. The only reason he was staying in Utah was because of the band so if the band was going to be on hiatus for several months there was really no way that he could justify any further stay in Utah. So after more than a years time we said goodbye to Joe. Suddenly we were at 4 members with Tim, Matt, Nate, and myself being the only ones who remained. It seemed like such a quick transition. We had played with 6 members for so long and it all seemed to dissipate so fast. One of the hardest things as a band to do is to keep everyone together. Life happens though and you can never really prepare for it. When you have 6 people all with different lives, schedules, jobs, relationships, incomes, families, it is a balancing act of sorts. Making the music is the easy part keeping everyone on the same page is a different story. Despite all the chaos that has circled the band for the last part of this year I feel like we have truly weathered the storm. We have some new faces who have instilled some fresh energy into this project and I feel like we are really connected as a group right now. Jake on the bass, and Ronnie on the drums have been amazing additions to the band. The drums have never sounded tighter, and we have never had such showmanship on the bass. Everyone seems really positive about what we are doing and we are making a lot of progress writing new music and pushing toward our second album. We are having a lot of fun playing together right now as well. Practices are all very constructive and we are all bringing new ideas to the project to keep the momentum going. I feel like the band is at a really good place right now and everyone is really excited about the future. Our fans continued support has really fueled all of us. I believe Sober Down's success is a product of your energy at the shows. Our fans have really kept us motivated and I can't tell you what your support means to the band. So watch for some really exciting things coming up. We are starting to plan our CD release show... :) What is a new CD release without a party to kick it off?! This will be nothing short of EPIC truly in Sober Down fashion!!!

Show with REEL BIG FISH!!

Been a busy weekend for Sober Down!! Played with Reel Big Fish on this last Friday in St. George at The Electric Theater. It was a very good experience. It was so surreal to play with a group that you've grown up listening to for years and then get to share a stage plus have a spaghetti dinner with!!! It was a very good expeience and all the guys in Sober Down had an unforgetable time. Ivy League and One Pin Short also played, and we were fortunate enough to have em both on our show at the huka on that saturday after. Their show date fell through so we just put everyone on the Huka bar date and it was a blast!! It was a night of good energy and good music. We did the Side Car in Park City the Day before, and then The Huka Bar on the saturday after Reel Big Fish. So we were pretty spent when sunday came around. One Pin Shot. Check em out. They're a really good band from Las Vegas,NV. We hope to do lots more with those guys. We got The Dirty Head's show coming up this friday, so i'll let you know how that goes. See ya.

Sober Down CD Release!!!

This weekend was such an incredible site, that gave us such a great feeling! We probably would have written sooner, but I think all of us are just finally recovering even though it’s 4 days later. It was wild! More people that we every could have hoped for showed up to our CD Release show, you guys just kept piling in! The company was great, the staff were great, the bar was wonderful, the food was great and I think the music was rockin’ too! There are a lot of crazy and funny stories from Saturday that we will never forget! Thanks for making the mark of our biggest accomplishment so far, far beyond our expectations! We appreciate each and every one of you!

From the beginning the day just started out on the wrong foot. In the morning we got an email from our guy doing our CDs saying that there was an imperfection in our artwork for the sleeve of our CD. So we had to take the time to fix that. Then we weren’t even sure if Ben was going to be able to get off work in time to make it to the show… but he did! So we all met up at Aaron’s house and then headed to the jam spot about an hour and a half later than planned. We loaded up all of the gear into the trailer and we were on our way. We got to 123^rd in the Sandy area and we noticed the right wheel of the trailer wasn’t turning anymore. We didn’t know what to do, it was snowy, icy and we were late! We had no other choice but to get off and try to find a way to fix it. We headed to the Firestone that was right off of the freeway exit, but their wait was an hour! We were supposed to play in 45 minutes, so that just didn’t work! Ben brilliantly made it possible for Les Schwab to be waiting for us to just back in and fix the thing. So while the guys at Les Schwab were looking at the trailer, Tim went to roll his window up and it wouldn’t go… then he realized that his battery had died, as if the day could have gotten any worse. So an employee jumped his car. Turns out that is had something to do with the electric brakes, they basically just needed to be unhooked because they weren’t working properly. They were working more as a magnet making it so the wheel wouldn’t turn. It was a huge relief; the guys didn’t even charge us! We all hopped into the car… except Aaron, he was lost… we’re still not sure where he went actually. He found us finally across the street at the 7-11 getting gas. I guess all that matter is we found him and WE MADE IT TO THE SHOW, on time too, well kind of. We made it in time to set up in 10 minutes which was pretty much a miracle for us. We ended up playing on time too! The guys back stage loved the music and were groovin’ the whole time. It was so freezing, there were icicles on Matt’s trumpet and during every break the guitar players held their hands up to the heaters. But all in all it was a cool show, there was snow coming down, ice skating, hockey and they even had us up on a big screen. It was a cool experience! After that we headed over to The Huka Bar to get some food and smoke hookah. Nate the owner and his wife Aimee joined us for awhile, it was a good time. Always is at The Huka Bar though right!? Hey everyone. First of all.. I had the best time the other night at the Huka Bar. All the fellas played well, and we played with Nate, a sax player we've practiced with once before the show. He pulled it off very well. Can't tell you all how much we appreciate the support. I hope to see everyone at the Gallivan center in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, Dec. 29th. 2009 for "EVE". Which is salt lake's first night. This will be our first time playing this stage. We are very excited for it!! Plus, if you haven't purchased your Sober Down CD Release admission, Buy Tickets Here

As some of you know we are going to be playing regularly every two weeks at The Huka Bar! The Huka Bar is by far our favorite place to play, and it seems like it's your favorite place to come see us! Well, since it is the holiday season and all we have some cool things we are going to do! For starters, anyone who wants to come to The Huka Bar on the 26th (day after Christmas, don't forget) we will put you and all of your friends on our guest list to get in for FREE! This past week has been a very hectic time for us! We have been trying to get so much done in such a small amount of time. We just finished recording the CD a couple of days ago and sent it to be mastered this morning. So far everything is right on track. On Monday we will pick it up and take it to be printed. This is such a great achievement for us and there is no way we could have done it without all of your guys! Coming to our shows is one of the best ways to support us, it puts us in the right direction to hit the road and tour!

On December 26th the day after Christmas we will be playing at The Huka Bar, it's free admission for those of you that put get your names to us to be put on the guest list. We are hoping to carry on with the Christmas celebration into the next day so bring your holiday cheer! We will also be holding a contest for 2 admission tickets to our CD Release show on January 9th! So be ready to participate!

Sober Down CD Release

Thanks to everyone who has purchased their admission to our CD Release Show/Party. For those of you who have not, here are the details:

$40.00 Includes:
- One night stay in a beautiful lodge. (Beds available on a first come, first serve basis upon admission purchase.
- Sober Down’s new CD
- A live performance from Sober Down
- DJ RockSolid Spinning your favorite reggae beats
- All the food and drinks you want (Alcohol for 21+ wearing the appropriate wristband. Food served at 7 PM)

There are a VERY limited number of single and double beds left. We expect them to run out VERY soon. Remember beds are on a first come, first serve basis upon admission purchase. There are plenty of pads at the lodge to lay a pad on the floor and sleep. Just because you don’t get a bed doesn’t mean you are not welcome to stay!

If you are wondering how the beds/rooms are set up, it’s as follows: there are 4 double beds and 4 single beds to a room. Once all of the beds are spoken for we will start assigning people to rooms. If we are familiar with a group of people who purchased tickets that are friends, we will just put all of your guys in a room. If you know someone else that purchased admission tickets and you want to share a room with them, please send us an email to info@soberdown.com
